Come Early and Fly
Topics:
- July Fun Fly
Roy Pettit will be coordinating a “Biggish Bird” Electric FunFly on Saturday’s in July 22nd at 9am. This will be a no-points/no-winner event with simple challenges for the participants. Here’s the deal – the plane you fly must be at least 60 inches in wingspan (5 feet), or if it is a biplane it can be 36 inches wingspan (3 feet). Special recognition will be given to the person with the plane that has the most wing area. Anything qualifies, including gliders, old-timers, aerobatic, and scale. By a show of hands the pilot with the “best” scale plane will be recognized. If the wind at windfinder.com/report/hood_river_airport at 8am is more than 10mph, or it’s raining more than a drizzle, the event will be cancelled
- Combat Flying
Saturdays in July we will be having combat flying at Barrett. Come at 9am with your flying wing, assassin or similar.
- RC Car inclusion in club
The most important topic to be discussed is inclusion of RC Cars in the club. There is an opportunity to build a track in White Salmon but we need an organized work party and a method for dealing with the maintenance and policing of the track. Due to upfront and ongoing costs associated with a track I propose we set up a “track fee” to cover these costs. The area is near Innovative Composite Engineering (ICE) just off Main Street near the turnoff to Snowden Road. We may need to remove some trees but the area is flat and there is graveled parking, water, and power.
A couple of years ago the club actually voted to include cars in the club but this is the first time that we have had a need to organize that part of the club. Car people could join the club at the regular 5 dollar rate and pay additional track fees to cover the track itself. At some point we may want to do something similar for the airfield.
We might also consider changing the name of the club to reflect the additional membership but this isn’t an urgent requirement.
